As a result of his innovative thinking and unrelenting spirit, Gaston launched the world’s first wrist chronograph in 1915. This wrist chronograph incorporates a separate push-piece situated above the watch crown.

In 1923, Breitling patented a pocket chronograph with two pushers. The first pusher on the top is used to start and stop the stopwatch. The second pusher is merged with the crown and is used to reset the chronograph. This watch can also measure time in several succession, and it is the first of its kind.

In July 1927, Gaston Breitling died due to fortuitous circumstances. Willy Breitling, Leon’s 14-year old son, was still too young to take over his father. Because of this, an external team ran the company for the next five years until Willy was ready to take over.

Will Breitling applied for a patent for a wrist-worn chronograph in 1934. The wrist chronograph was equipped with two pushers. And in 1936, Willy designed a special chronograph for aviators.

In April 1979, Breitling was bought by watchmaker Ernest Schneider before Willy Breitling died. The Schneider family continued the Breitling legacy of continuous innovation until 2017 when CVC Capital Partners bought 80% of the company’s share.
